Miles Morales hanging upside down with a ton of Spider-People behind him

Intro

All right, y’all. It’s only been a week, but it’s been a very long week. We’re finally here to see Across the Spider-verse. It’s gotta be good, right? Like it can’t be bad. Not at this point. I don’t know. We’re going to see it. We’ll talk about it.

First Thoughts on Across the Spider-Verse

All right, y’all what’s up? We are finally out of a movie. It is everything everyone has said. It is 10 outta 10 perfect. No notes. I don’t want to spoil most of it for you because every bit, every little cameo was a delight. The one thing I can say, and I think I can say is that spoiling is every spider person has their own book, their own feel, their own vibe, and that carries through no matter what universe they’re in.

No matter where they travel, they keep their own style, they look like them. And it… I don’t know how they did it. Like it’s a feat of animation. The animators did an absolutely incredible job of tying it altogether and making it all look like it fits all being distinct. If this doesn’t win awards there’s problems. It’s gotta win awards. I mean, really, I’m still kind of processing and I probably will have more to say. So let’s talk in a bit.

Love that we found this poster to stand behind do the thing. We’re back at the safety of the Volcano Base after seeing across the Spider-verse. The car ride home has not changed my opinion. This was a stellar movie. Outstanding. Deserves to be seen. Deserves all the awards.

The Next Day

Obviously there are going to be some spoilers here. I don’t know how to talk about this movie without spoilers. So that’s what you’re going to get. Like Spider-Man wasn’t stagnant here. It’s not like we just picked him up right after the last movie. There’s kind of a flash forward to the future of like, a year, a year and a half, and we sort of see him, like redesigning his outfit and really coming into his own as a spider person, even when he discovers that there are other ones out there, he realizes that he can hold his own against them.

It’s kind of in a terrible way that he figures that out, but he does figure that out. I think setting up another Spider person as an antagonist, I don’t I hesitate to say villain because I think he has the best of intentions. But Spider-Man 2099 is definitely at least an antagonist here. He has his own way of doing things that kind of set him up as sort of this like, antihero role, like I do what needs to be done sort of thing.

By the way, Oscar Isaacss killed it just nailed it great. Like, of course, Oscar Isaac is an amazing actor, but he did a great job as Miguel. I think the next movie is really going to be interesting by now. If you’ve seen the movie, you know this is a setup for another movie. So essentially going to have a trilogy. This is kind of like we get the cliffhanger ending.

I’m really looking forward to,  it’s weird to say that, but I’m looking forward to the civil war between the Spider people. It’s real obvious that we’re setting up sort of like a good guy, bad guy situation.

Introducing Spider-Punk

oh my gosh, I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about Hobie. Hobie Spider punk. My new favorite spider person.

He is an anarchist through and through. He wants to take down the system, wants to take down the man and remind you of that at every opportunity played to a  tee. Just. Just now. Chef’s kiss. I have Marvel Unlimited. I’m going to go digging through Marvel Unlimited to try to find any, as you see then, because, like, I am just that enamored of the character now.

Dirtbag Spider-Man

I would also be remiss if I didn’t bring up my favorite spider person from the last one, and that’s who I affectionately refer to as Dirtbag Spider-Man. Peter B. Parker. The Spider-Man who helped train Miles in the first movie, has kind of gotten his stuff together a little bit like he is in a relationship and he’s got a kid and he is just an enthusiastic, exuberant, excited dad, which is really cool to see in the midst of all of this like world ending heavy, heavy stuff that like one of these spider people is just excited to be a dad and like, does all the typical dad stuff. Nobody wants to see pictures, 300 pictures of your kids, but he’s going to show you anyway.

And he is on Team Miles towards the end of the movie. Like, you know, we sort of see there’s a split and he is on Team Miles and that means we get more of him in the next movie, which I can only be excited about. I really hope we get more of Hobie in the next one as well.

Wrap It Up

I could go on and on this probably too long already. Go see this movie. Just. Just go see it. Like, stop what you’re doing. Just go see the movie. it’s just a wonderful piece of art that deserves to be seen. I’m going to stop rambling now. If you like what you see, don’t forget to like, subscribe and interact for more volcanic vibes.
